Description

Sculpture has added a lot of color to our life, and our life is more rich because of the ornament of sculpture. Some sculptures not only have decorative function, but also have great memorial significance, especially figure sculpture. Take a look at the Navy Lone Sailor garden statue. The Lone Sailor is a 1987 bronze sculpture, a tribute to all who serve at sea. The sculpture was created by Stanley Bleifeld for the U.S. Navy Memorial in Washington, D.C.

Rear Admiral William Thompson was the first president and CEO of the Navy Memorial Foundation, which raised funds to create the Navy Memorial. As a tribute to Thompson’s work in bringing the memorial to life, sculptor Stanley Bleifield placed Thompson’s initials and last name on the sea bag. The Model for The Lone Sailor is Dan Maloney. Maloney modeled it in 1984 or 1985, when he was petty Officer first class assigned to the SUBMARINE USS Alabama. Navy Times published Maloney’s first-person account of his choice and collaboration with Bleifield on the Lone Sailor and Hounds of Liberty statue. Liberty Hound is located on the waterfront in Jacksonville, Florida. The Lone Sailor had several early designs, but The version created from these meetings was not approved. After failing to use a model of a naval ceremonial honor guard, Bleifield turned to the New London submarine Base for a more typical man. As part of the casting process, the bronze of the Lone Sailor was mixed with artifacts from eight U.S. Navy ships provided by the Naval History Center. If you want to install a sculpture in your garden, this Navy Lone Sailor garden statue is a great choice.
