Description

Sculpture plays a very important role in our life. Not only are they decorative, but many are also monumental. In many squares, monumental sculptures are placed for people to visit. Take a look at our big sculpture outdoor. This is the National Native American Veterans Memorial. It is a war memorial in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, commemorating the contribution of all Aboriginal people to war and peacekeeping operations from the First World War to the present day. The memorial was designed by Lloyd Pinay of the Peepeekisis First Nation in Saskatchewan, whose father fought in the D-Day attacks of World War II. It was inaugurated on June 21, 2001, by Adrienne Clarkson, then Governor-General of Canada.

This fine monument commemorates the wartime contributions of the First Nations. A closer look reveals a monument of buffalo, bear, wolf, and eagle. The bronze big sculpture outdoor monument sits on a marble plinth that was mined in Shawinigan, Quebec. The monument itself was built in 2000 and 2001 on the Muskeg Lake Cree Nation Urban Reserve in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, which is part of the Six-Party Treaty territory. Once completed, it will be disassembled for transport and then reassembled in Ottawa.

Sculptor Lloyd Pinet once said that “the main theme is that the cause of war is probably the desire for peace”. The big sculpture outdoor monument depicts a golden eagle as a messenger between the creator and mankind. The eagle or thunderbird also symbolizes the creator and embodies the spirit of the indigenous people. Beneath the eagle is four human figures facing four points of the compass, representing aboriginal, Inuit, and Metis. Pinay felt it was important to include female figures in the sculpture to acknowledge women’s role not only as nurses but also in maintaining the family in the absence of men. The characters carry not only weapons but spiritual objects: an eagle fan and a peace pipe. There are four animal figures, one in each corner as a spiritual guide, each with a special attribute: Wolf (family values), buffalo (resilience), elk (vigilance), and bear (healing ability). This big sculpture outdoor is a famous sculpture. If you are interested in it, welcome to contact us.
